In Which I Die of Awesome

Awake: A Fairytale is a YA (Young Adult) book.  The characters are 18, so it probably would be considered upper YA, although I think it would appeal to a younger audience as well.  I’ve heard from several readers that they have given Awake to their teen/tween kids after they’ve finished the book and I love that they liked Awake well enough to share it with their kids!

One such reader is Wendi Sotis.  Wendi is an Austenesque author that I know through Twitter.  She bought and read Awake in the first few days it was out and then shared it with her eleven year old daughter, Maddie (Wendi obviously has really good taste in names).  Maddie read Awake and decided to do a book report on it for school!  Here is Maddie’s illustrated book report of Awake: A Fairytale:

Warning: This report contains spoilers (and is AWESOME)

Oh. My. Gosh.  Is this not the most amazing thing ever?  I totally adore it!  If I were Maddie’s teacher I’d give her an A 😉  In fact, Wendi, you should let her teacher know that the author was impressed with her reading comprehension and detail recall.  I might be getting this framed because it totally makes me feel as if I’ve “arrived” as an author.  Thanks Wendi for sharing the book with Maddie, and THANK YOU to Maddie for the awesome report and for letting me share it here!

  1. If I ever write a book, I want Maddie to illustrate it. This definitely rates framing. This really makes me want to read the book. Incidentally, I love the book cover. Stunning!

    1. Thank you Gayle! The cover was designed by my good friend Victoria who also happens to be a brilliant artist (score for me!). I love Maddie’s illustrations 🙂

  2. Aww, that is precious!!! You have arrived, my dear 🙂
I hope my #EnchantedDarcy is worthy of an amazing book report one day…That is seriously awesome.

  3. Maddie did a fabulous job with this book project! In fact, she did such a fabulous job that I added the book to my “Must Read” list. Btw, Jessica, she did earn an A. Thank you for posting her beautiful work. 🙂

    1. Nicole, glad to hear she got an A! I loved seeing how many of the little things in the story ended up in her illustrations. She did a great job! I’m glad Awake has been added to your must read list!

  4. Thank you! I appreciate the nice comments!!! 🙂 It’s one of my favorite books. I could read it again, and again, and again! Are you going to be writing more? I’d LOVE to read it!

  5. Wendi, as you know I am not a writer but if Maddie would illustrate it, I might be encouraged to write it! How wonderful! Well done, Maddie!
